Art Route

Paternoster’s palette of nature, light and life evokes a sense of time and place that seeks expression in many forms.  Drawn by this magnetism, several artists have brought their talent and skills to the village. Further afield there are numerous interesting places to visit:

Beyond Paternoster, the West Coast promises a multitude of interesting outings.

The beautiful Langebaan Lagoon offers many attractions including the West Coast National Park (a must-see during flower season in particular). The harbour town of Saldanha and the holiday town of Langebaan are popular spots for kite-surfing, sailing and fishing.

The town of Darling is home to South Africa’s famous celebrity Peter-Dirk Uys aka Evita Peron. Here you can also find a diversity of arts, crafts and wineries, along with great restaurants and coffee shops.

At Velddrif the Berg River cuts a path to the sea and enters the Atlantic amidst a flurry of birdlife and boats. A trip with local guides is a great way to explore the waterways around the town. Not far from this town, the settlements of St Helena Bay, Shelley Point, Britannia Bay, and Stompneus Bay are within easy reach.

A drive to the north leads to the coastal towns of Elands Bay and Lamberts Bay; and further inland, Piketberg is a stop on the way through farmlands and mountains in the direction of Namaqualand – with Clan William and the imposing Cedarberg Range a few hours to the northeast.
